On 17 December 1999, in its resolution 54/120, the United Nations General Assembly endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth (Lisbon, 8-12 August 1998) that 12 August be declared International Youth Day. Since the adoption of Security Council Resolution S/RES/2250 (2015) in 2015, there is growing recognition that as agents of change, young people’s inclusion in the peace and security agenda and in society more broadly, is key to building and sustaining peace.

"Youth Building Peace"

International Youth Day 2017 is dedicated to celebrating young people’s contributions to conflict prevention and transformation as well as inclusion, social justice, and sustainable peace.

On Augest 12th, 2017, Humans for Peace Institution, National Capital Commission - Commission de la capitale nationale (NCC) and Park Canada, organized a camping trip for 20 Syrian youth " Youth for Peace" to the Gatineau Park -Lac Philippe. The main idea of this field trip was to engage the Syrian newcomer in the local community, to understand the Canadian eco-system and environment protection, and to educate them about one of the most important activities that Canadian like to do in summer - Camping.

The trip was managed and planed by the Director of Youth for Peace Mr. Noor Sakhniya. The youth had various activates from building their own tents, preparing the food, playing beach volleyball, playing soccer, making the camp fire, learning about camping secrets, hiking, learning about the plants and animals in the park,  canyoning, swimming, and cleaning the camp site. The camper also had a chat with one of the park police officers to know more about rules and laws of camping.

The campers had very amazing time in the middle of the Canadian nature, and by the end, they thanked the team from NCC and Park Canada for all efforts and help to make this camp great.
