Ottawa, October 17, 2026
Humans for Peace Institution (HPI) successfully hosted an informative and interactive session titled “Empowering Seniors Against Fraud in the AI Era” at Westpointe Retirement Community in Barrhaven, Ontario. Nearly 40 seniors attended the event to learn practical ways to recognize scams and protect themselves in an increasingly digital world.
The session focused on the growing risks of AI-powered fraud, including fraudulent phone calls, phishing emails, suspicious text messages, online scams, and deepfake technology. Participants received practical guidance on identifying warning signs, protecting personal information, securing online accounts, and safeguarding their finances.
A key highlight of the event was its hands-on approach. Seniors had the opportunity to learn practical safety measures, explore real-life scam scenarios, and strengthen their confidence in responding to suspicious communications. The interactive format encouraged participants to ask questions, share experiences, and learn how to avoid becoming victims of fraud.
The strong attendance and active participation demonstrated the importance of providing seniors with accessible digital safety education. As scammers increasingly use artificial intelligence to create convincing fraudulent messages and impersonate trusted individuals, equipping older adults with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves has become more important than ever.
Humans for Peace Institution remains committed to empowering seniors through digital literacy, community engagement, and fraud prevention education. The organization aims to help older adults feel safer, more confident, and better prepared to navigate today's digital environment.
The event was funded by the New Horizons for Seniors Program of the Government of Canada, which supports initiatives that improve the well-being and social participation of older adults.
Humans for Peace Institution extends its appreciation to Westpointe Retirement Community for hosting the session and to all the seniors who participated enthusiastically in making this event a success.
Together, we can help seniors stay informed, stay safe, and stay one step ahead of scammers.
