Ottawa Multicultural Week Launch

 

Ottawa, June 14, 2026 — Dr. Alsharif was honoured to participate as a guest speaker at the inaugural launch of Ottawa Multicultural Week, representing the Humans for Peace Institution and the Jordan Cultural and Heritage Association–Canada.

The historic event took place at Ottawa City Hall's Jean Pigott Place and marked the official proclamation of June 14–20 as Ottawa Multicultural Week by the Mayor of Ottawa on behalf of World Multicultural Festival Inc. The celebration also featured a flag-hoisting ceremony symbolizing unity, diversity, inclusion, and shared community values.

During his address, Dr. Alsharif highlighted Canada as a global example of multiculturalism, emphasizing the country's success in bringing together people from diverse cultural, ethnic, religious, and linguistic backgrounds. He noted that Canada's multicultural model continues to inspire nations around the world by demonstrating how diversity can strengthen social cohesion, innovation, and economic prosperity.

At the same time, Dr. Alsharif emphasized that the journey toward true equality remains ongoing. He acknowledged that Canada, like many countries, continues to face challenges related to racism, prejudice, and systemic discrimination. He called on community leaders, governments, and citizens to work together to address these barriers and build a more inclusive society where every individual has equal opportunities to thrive.

"Multiculturalism is not only about celebrating our differences," Dr. Alsharif stated. "It is also about ensuring justice, equality, and dignity for all members of our communities."

The event brought together ambassadors, community leaders, cultural organizations, and residents from across Ottawa to celebrate the city's rich diversity and to strengthen the bonds that unite Canadians from all backgrounds.

The Humans for Peace Institution and the Jordan Cultural and Heritage Association–Canada expressed their appreciation to World Multicultural Festival Inc., the City of Ottawa, and all organizers for creating a platform that promotes dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect among communities.

As Ottawa Multicultural Week begins what is expected to become a cherished annual tradition, participants left inspired by a shared commitment to building a more peaceful, inclusive, and united Canada.
