More than 20 seniors gathered at the Waterford Grand Retirement Residence on Saturday morning to attend an informative and engaging lecture on digital safety and security, organized by the Humans for Peace Institution.

The session, held at 11:00 a.m., was delivered by Dr. Jamal Alsharif, who provided practical guidance to help older adults confidently and safely navigate today’s digital landscape.

Throughout the lecture, attendees were introduced to essential online safety practices, including how to recognize internet scams, create strong and secure passwords, safeguard personal information, and avoid fraudulent emails and phone calls. Dr. Alsharif emphasized real-life examples and simple strategies, ensuring that participants could easily apply what they learned in their daily lives.

Participants expressed appreciation for the clear and accessible approach of the session, noting that it addressed many of their concerns about increasing online risks. The interactive nature of the lecture also allowed seniors to ask questions and share their own experiences with digital challenges.

As part of the event, gifts were distributed to all attendees, adding a warm and celebratory touch to the gathering and recognizing their commitment to learning and staying safe online.

The initiative was supported by the New Horizons for Seniors Program under Service Canada, reflecting a broader effort by the Government of Canada to promote digital literacy and protect seniors from online threats.

This successful event highlights the ongoing commitment of the Humans for Peace Institution to empowering communities through education, inclusion, and practical support—ensuring that seniors are not left behind in an increasingly digital world.
