Nepean, Ontario – July 11
Humans for Peace Institution (HPI) successfully hosted its "Empowering Seniors Against Fraud" educational workshop on Saturday, July 11, at Westpointe Retirement Community in Nepean, Ontario.
The free two-hour interactive workshop brought together 30 seniors who participated in meaningful discussions about the growing risks of fraud, identity theft, online scams, phishing emails, and financial exploitation. Participants also shared their own personal experiences with fraudulent phone calls, text messages, email scams, and other attempts by criminals to target older adults.
The presentation provided practical strategies to help seniors recognize warning signs, create strong passwords, protect personal and financial information, use social media safely, and know where and how to report fraud.
One of the highlights of the event was the lively discussion among participants, who exchanged valuable advice and encouraged one another to remain vigilant in today's rapidly changing digital world. The open dialogue created a supportive environment where seniors learned not only from the presenters but also from each other's real-life experiences.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Humans for Peace Institution presented small appreciation gifts to all attendees in recognition of their participation and commitment to lifelong learning.
This educational initiative was made possible through funding from the New Horizons for Seniors Program – Government of Canada, demonstrating a shared commitment to protecting seniors, promoting digital literacy, and strengthening community well-being.
Humans for Peace Institution extends its sincere appreciation to the management and residents of Westpointe Retirement Community for their warm hospitality and enthusiastic participation.
